![]() granted I have an English degree and had some translation courses but I never actually WORKED in the field and could have done better. Idk what Bandai was thinking, I could have translated this better. If you don't realize the mistakes and what the English original might have actually said the translation will ruin the game for you. TLDR If you are German and know enough English to understand the dialogue when you read it, do yourself a favor and switch to English. So the literal translation screws up the meaning 100%.Īnd that's just a small one on the side optional content. That's the only situation we would use it. Actually, the only context in which we would use the above phrase is if the press CALLED on the PHONE and your idk, mom picked up and they told her "we wanna talk to your child" and then your mom approaches you and gives you the phone saying "that's the press for you". the idiom/saying doesn't exist in German. Now the translator went and translated that LITERALLY into "Das ist die Presse für dich" but. It means something like "as expected of the press." but I guess I don't have to tell you that, you know English. Here is just one example: There is a brain message in the game with the title "that's the press for you". They can't grasp basic English idioms or sayings and instead translate them literally, so that either the meaning of the entire sentence is changed (& I would have totally lost the plot by now if I didn't understand the English voice acting and what they are ACTUALLY saying), OR they make zero sense. But then b) I doubt they have any kind of education in English beyond what you learn in school, let alone an English or even English translation degree, because the mistakes are just awful. Whoever did these translations a) did it from English rather than the Japanese original, but ok. I am by no means sensitive about small mistakes at all (& that's all it is for the Trails games imo), but this? So terrible I set my console to English just so I can play this game with English text instead. As someone who plays the Trails games and therefore constantly sees that community's complaints about the "bad" translations NISA apparently does.įfs these people need to see the German translation for this game.
